So when our instructor asked us to bring clothes for the weather I wasn’t sure what she meant except we will be out and that it might, like might rain. After initial briefing in the class and revision of what we did over the last week, we stepped out to the nearby Finsbury park in comfortable gym clothes ready to rumble. And while the predicted rain was supposed to commence in few hours, well I say predicted coz as you can guess by now it had started to rain already. After walking for a km and a half, we were divided into four groups of 5 each for our circuits. But before we could start with the ‘fun’ (you will soon know why I say fun) sessions, we had a bit of warm up, up and down the hill. It felt great initially as we were in one group and eventually we went up and down the hill with leaders within us who guided us through. Once warm and wet, we head to our spots to understand what was supposed to be done. Some received props, some retained the hill, some headed to the outdoor Finsbury gym area with equipments set up for anyone and everyone while we, had the kids park. We were given the task to design 5 circuits making most of the area for 45 seconds each as a workout as we show a progression (for pros) and regression (for to-be pros) as well. Then once our planning was done, we demonstrated to the other group while they worked hard and next it was our time to workout in their circuit, so all of us had different areas and props or hill to use and plan.
I must say, I liked it thoroughly as this is what I used to love doing whether in circuit factory or studio classes for years. We were being creative with our circuits and I was actually enjoying the rain that was pouring on us to make it harder. Around noon we left and after lunch, we had a studio session in pairs to use more props that were given to us and once we demonstrated up to 5 exercises using one prop, we move to the next one. I saw we had vipr in one station and I absolutely love them, as I used to work out in vipr classes ages ago on a weekly basis, needless to say I was able to introduce some moves.
Another session packaged with circuit training and if that wasn’t enough for the day, in the end was our treat from the instructor to do a session set up by her with love for us. We did warm up, 8 exercises with a partner for 45 seconds each with 15 seconds rest and cool down stretches. I have no idea how much we burnt in calories but what I do know is that it was a fun day filled with all the exercises that you never knew your body could do or survive. This officially makes us an intermediate fitness person without a doubt and now, day after tomorrow we have practicals where we shall demonstrate our designed circuits to a group of 6 people with 8 stations as a leader.. Looking forward to that one, as we will create an original circuit keeping in mind the body muscles used with balance and agility.
