Today was an eventful day I would say and it all started with a visit to the nearby gym to explore what they have to offer before signing up for few day passes. The walk was half an hour long and with a pleasant weather upon us today, where the sun was shinning for long, I enjoyed the walk while thinking of what I want to do in the gym. I started a practice of writing down my workouts as I go, more like a journal so over a period of time I can look back at it. Weights is my top priority right now and while I am becoming good at it, I really want to push my limits. From current deadlift of 60-70 kgs max, leg press on resistance machines at 90 kgs max and bench press at 30 kgs max, I feel I can lift more, this so far is possible today after a few days of hard work. If anyone says ladies should not lift weights, they should visit gyms more often and see for themselves, as it’s not about the lifting, it’s about what you lift, for what muscles and how. If you don’t want broad shoulders, just stay away from shoulder press and other shoulder related weights, keep lifting weights using the muscles that will make your legs stronger instead. Whatever your aim is, whatever the target is, weights are not bad at all, it makes you stronger, I surely can feel it.
After spending almost two hours, I made my way back promising myself and them that I shall come tomorrow again. I just want to say, it felt good to be able to do what you want in the gym, knowing what muscles are working and how to mix it up, all thanks to the education. And now it’s upon me to take it to the next level, closer to my goal.
But first, I needed to make it to my nails appointment, what? Every girl needs to stay like a girl after all ? Once home, I was welcomed by this cat sitting in the front yard, staring at the greenery around, it made me think…. what would it be thinking? It doesn’t have an agenda, no gym to go, no food to cook, only look at the world around and wish for the next plate of food.
With all the time in hand until my next course on 5 July, I am constantly exploring my food palate and preparing recipes as healthy food substitutes. This is something that am experimenting with me first, then family and hopefully soon with friends too. The concept is basically to eat what one likes, for example blueberry cookies (first attempt today), banana muffins, quinoa with spinach or kale, eggs with mixed vegetables; for breakfast, lunch and dinner… all with a healthy twist and guess what, so far am successful and few recipes down. From avocado pancakes, to muffins and latest invention of cookies today, lunch serving with colourful peppers stuffed with quinoa and green veggies including celery, to tuna for dinner with spinach or home made pesto with greens and small portion of wholemeal pasta. Do I feel full after every meal? Yes I do. Does my stomach feel light and happy? Yes it does. So imagine if with few more experiments, I can reach a level where I can really convert major food type and make it healthy in its own ways, I know I am imaging it.
The more I think about it, the more I want to be in the kitchen, oh dear.. what’s going on??? This reminds me it’s time to go for some grocery shopping, to pick up food and guess what’s on my list? Kale, lemon, cucumber, bananas, Greek yoghurt, strawberries, avocado, basil leaves & quinoa.
What can I say… walk the walk, talk the talk!!
