Ramadan Kareem to our beautiful community.

Ramadan is a sacred time of giving โ€” and also of gently receiving. Receiving patience. Receiving calm. Receiving moments of stillness with ourselves. It is a month of simply being โ€” being present in our homes, in our prayers, in our feelings, and in our growing hearts.

For children, Ramadan is especially magical. Many begin fasting at a young age, guided lovingly by their families โ€” learning step by step what it means to prepare for Suhoor, to move through the day, and to break their fast together at Iftar. It is a journey built slowly, with care and celebration.

This story is about how Yoga can softly support that journey.

Through simple breathing exercises and mindful stretches, children can begin their mornings with gentle energy, lift themselves during low moments in the afternoon, and center their hearts before opening their fast. During Ramadan, children discover new superpowers โ€” tolerance, kindness, patience, and calm โ€” and Yoga helps them feel these qualities from within.

A Little Introduction ๐Ÿ’›

Hi, Iโ€™m Brinda Hora โ€” Founder, Author, and the Heart & Soul behind Happy Feet Yogi.

Happy Feet Yogi was created to support children (and families) in building emotional awareness, calm confidence, and gratitude โ€” especially during meaningful times like Ramadan. Through playful Yoga and breathing practices, we help children pause, reflect on how they feel, and nurture love and care for themselves and others.

Zayanโ€™s First Day of Ramadan ๐ŸŒŸ

Letโ€™s meet our character for today โ€” Zayan. Graceful, gentle, and full of curiosity.

It was the first day of Ramadan. Zayan woke up feeling excited. He knew this was the month of extra kindness, sharing, and special family time. But he also felt a little sleepy โ€” waking up early for Suhoor can do that!

As he sat quietly, he heard a soft whisper within:
โ€œLetโ€™s wake up the body.โ€

He unrolled his mat.

1) Yogi Breath

Zayan sat comfortably, placing one palm on his belly and one on his chest. He breathed slowly, noticing how he felt. No changing, no forcing โ€” just observing. This is how we begin: by listening.

2) Extended Child’s Pose

He stretched forward, arms long on the mat, knees wide, hips resting back on his heels. A beautiful stretch to open the body, breath, and mind.

3) Cat & Cow Stretches

Coming onto all fours, he inhaled, lifting his chest toward the sky. Exhaling, he rounded his back, chin to chest. Slow. Gentle. Flowing with his breath.

After a few rounds, he rested again in Extended Childโ€™s Pose โ€” feeling awake and ready.

Afternoon Energy Dip

As the sun rose higher, Zayanโ€™s energy dipped. Fasting can feel like that sometimes.

Again, that inner whisper returned: โ€œLetโ€™s stand tall like a tree.โ€

4) Tree Pose

Balancing on one leg, steady and focused. Even if he wobbled, he smiled. Balance isnโ€™t about being perfect โ€” itโ€™s about trying again. Rooted like a tree, calm and strong.

And then, to gently lift his energy he opted for an energizing breath.

5) Sunshine Breath

Standing tall in a shaded space, he opened his arms wide like a shining star.

Inhale โ€” stretch big and bright.
Exhale โ€” wrap his arms around himself in a warm hug.

With each breath, he felt stronger. Calmer. Collected.

Before Iftar ๐ŸŒ™

As evening approached, Zayan wanted to feel light and peaceful before breaking his fast.

He sat quietly and practiced another gentle breath –

6) Bee Breath

Gently closing his eyes and ears, he started softly humming.

I always say in my classes:
When your eyes are open, you look around.
When your eyes are closed, you look within.

The humming vibration soothed his nervous system, aligning his mind, body, and spirit. In that quiet moment, Zayan felt grateful โ€” for his strength, his family, and the gift of Ramadan.

The Gentle Takeaway ๐Ÿ’›

Ramadan teaches children so much about themselves.

Through fasting, they discover patience.
Through togetherness, they discover love.
Through reflection, they discover inner strength.

Adding just five minutes of mindful movement and breath can:

โ€ข Lift low energy
โ€ข Calm big emotions
โ€ข Build gratitude
โ€ข Strengthen focus
โ€ข Create emotional awareness

This short series can be practiced throughout the day โ€” in the morning, during an afternoon pause, or before Iftar โ€” or all at once as a complete five-minute reset. It may be simple, but it gently nourishes the body, mind, and heart.

Ramadan is not only about refraining โ€” it is about reconnecting.

And sometimes, all it takes is one breathโ€ฆ one stretchโ€ฆ one quiet momentโ€ฆ to feel the magic within ๐Ÿ’›
