“In the case of good books, the point is not to see how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you.” – Mortimer J. Adler
There’s nothing like waking up just before light knowing well enough that somewhere between the yoga session, the sun will be up too. Today was a good practice, more relaxing and a bit longer. My stomach had started making noises, sign of getting ready for breakfast. The Indian couple was departing today, somewhere before lunch time, one lady was still on cleansing and it was only Austin and I. We met for breakfast, he had his special meal, joined by the couple. By then, it was like any other day, we all knew our consultant timings and 2 treatments of the day. By then, Austin and I had become friends and we exchanged notes about who we are and what we do. Somehow between conversations, he informed me that his first name is Mehdi not Austin, he had an Arabic touch in his look and background (from his father’s side). He seemed like a chilled out guy, no stress, takes life as it comes and I liked that about him, I finally found a partner to laugh with, sometimes on stupid things that didn’t make much sense but gave us solace in the space we were in.
Today I was also on a mission to conclude the book – The Kite Runner as soon I wanted to go back to my Rubick’s cube as well as writing and planning my passion journey. So in between all of this, I read even while waiting for my treatment and consultation. I wasn’t sure if the book was addictive or I was committed. After today’s Shirodhara session, new Band Aids were made for my back and shoulder pains besides the knees, I almost felt like a mummy with all the tapes hoping I can still do the evening stretching session with the doctor. Lunch time was interesting, it seemed all the food on display was only for me as no one else was around to eat or allowed to indulge. The ladies smiled at me and we had a laugh over this as I poured each of the dish on my plate, silently thanking God for the food I have. Each of the dish was nicely placed in a bowl, the difference was it was the smallest bowl ever seen. What was interesting is that they didn’t reduce the no. of dishes, they still kept the main dishes, starters, salads, papad, coconut chutney and sweet. Post lunch mission was one, back to the book until the afternoon session. And even after that, I picked the book and sat in the room to avoid mosquitos and disruption. The evening class was good and dinner was fast as it was soup for both of us.
The book got even more interesting that I couldn’t stop but by the end of the night, I had to leave 40 odd pages for the next day otherwise I might not remember what I read that night. After dinner when the lady came to place new Band Aids on the knees with some oil, I requested her to remove the back and shoulder ones. 15 minutes later she was still working on it as they stuck to the skin and I could still see the last pull of the strip on my neck, so was concerned on how this would go. To my surprise, the lady had immense patience (Sruti) to dab water and gently remove every bit of the Band Aid on both sides. I thanked her and went back to reading hoping to remember what I read 🙂
